There is docking available for the boaters and fisherman. Fishing boats and snowmobiles can be rented nearby, canoes, paddleboats and activities on site. Dorset Heritage Museum Local History - Dorset Heritage Museum officially opened on July 1st, 2001 and is located in Dorset Ontario at the crossroads of Muskoka & Haliburton featuring museum exhibits of early pioneer life, local settlers, traditional logging practices, and historic information pertaining to pioneer settlement of the Dorset area.

Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower - The Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower is located off Highway 35 just north of the village of Dorset. The original tower was built in 1922, was 25 metres high (82 feet) and used as a fire lookout tower. The current tower was built in 1967, is 30 metres high (100). Annually, 60,000 vehicles will pass through the gates. In the peak Autumn season, it is not unusual for more than 600 vehicles to visit the tower in a single day. Maple Syrup See How It's Made - The making of Maple Syrup is a true sign that spring has arrived. As the days warm in March, the sap from the maple trees start to flow. Wintergreen Sugar Shack and Pancake House on County Road 21 just outside of Gelert is in full swing in the production of Maple Syrup. Winter Time

Haliburton Highlands offers a colourful season of lights, festive shopping and Santa Claus Parades during November, ending the fall season and the start of winter. Jolly Saint Nick will be making his annual visit to many of the rural Ontario towns, cities and villages.

Cross Country Skiing - For great cross-country skiing visit the Frost Nordic Ski Centre on Ontario's Haliburton Highlands - Muskoka border. Seven stacked loops of trails provide access to a winter wonderland that features rugged terrain, mixed hardwood forests, majestic stands of white pine and hemlock, cliff top lookouts and frozen waterfalls - Winter resorts country skiing or see our blog on cross country skiing

Downhill Skiing - We are located right in the center two great downhill ski hills, Sir Sam's Ski Area near Haliburton and Hidden Valley up by Huntsville. Ice Fishing - Halls Lake and the catch is Lake Trout. One of the deepest in Ontario. Hut rentals are available, bait shop near by.

Haliburton Dog Sledding - This activity is not at the resort, it's about a thirty minute drive to two great places, one with Winterdance, a dogsledding tour company that operates out of the Haliburton Highlands, Canada, alongside Algonquin park, and is owned and operated by husband and wife team Hank DeBruin and Tanya McCready-DeBruin, with "help" from their 4 young dogsledding children - see Winter Vacation Planning Haliburton Dogsledding

Other choice is dogsledding at the Haliburton Forest - The Forest has prided itself in creating one of the best trail systems in Canada - and their dog sledding trails are no exception. Dog sledding tours and comprehensive dog sled training sessions are available daily under the leadership of their professional dog sled guides.

Dorset Snowball Carnival - Snowball was originated by the volunteer Committee for the Dorset Recreation Centre back in 1991 as a community event and fundraiser for the Rec Centre. Snowball takes place on the 3rd weekend of February every year and has grown from an event that used to be only attended by people form Dorset to an event that is now attended by people from all over Ontario The town of Dorset comes alive in the third weekend of February with the Dorset Snowball Carnival - see our blog for more details on the Dorset Snowmobile Carnival

Minden Ice Races - Used to be on the lake now it is done in the Minden Fairgrounds on a man made frozen track of ice and snowbanks.

Snowshoeing in Haliburton - Traditional snowshoes have a hardwood frame with rawhide lacings. Some modern snowshoes are similar, but most are made of materials such as lightweight metal, plastic, and synthetic fabric. In addition to distributing the weight, snowshoes are generally raised at the toe for maneuverability. They must not accumulate snow, hence the latticework, and require bindings to attach them to the feet.

Snowmobile Trail HCSA #15 - Snowmobiling in the Haliburton Highlands has always been a popular winter sport. Season usually start mid January to March Break. We are located right on the trails and there is plenty of parking space for trailers on the resort grounds. If you don't have your own sleds then you can rent them and have them delivered right to your cottage, although we do suggest you rent and use the trails at the Haliburton Forest Reserve, it's your choice.

Going south towards Carnarvon, 10 minute drive will give you 3 restaurants

The Mill Pond - is where the locals go for a great breakfast plus it is the only one open for breakfast.

That Place in Carnarvon - open for lunch and dinner but not breakfast. It offers a salad bar that is included with each entree and you can order pizza to go - for more information on That Place.

The Peppermill Restaurant - A Family restaurant with upscale flair. Warm and comfortable, this all occasion family style steak and pasta house delivers a * just off the dock * relaxed atmosphere with rich pine post and beam accents, pine and cherry wood tables and an inviting pine log and cherry wood topped bar. Serving top quality Angus and "AAA" beef and fresh, made from scratch pasta dishes. The Pepper Mill defines country charm making it one of the "must do" dinner destinations while visiting the Haliburton and Minden area.
