Heritage Museum Local History - Dorset
Heritage Museum officially opened on July 1st, 2001 and is located
in Dorset Ontario at the crossroads of Muskoka & Haliburton featuring
museum exhibits of early pioneer life, local settlers, traditional logging
practices, and historic information pertaining to pioneer settlement of
the Dorset area.

Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower - The Dorset
Scenic Lookout Tower is located off Highway 35 just north of the village
of Dorset. The original tower was built in 1922, was 25 metres high (82
feet) and used as a fire lookout tower. The current tower was built in
1967, is 30 metres high (100). Annually, 60,000 vehicles will pass through
the gates. In the peak Autumn season, it is not unusual for more than
600 vehicles to visit the tower in a single day. Visitors are welcome
to climb to the observation deck which is 142 metres (465 feet) above

Maple Syrup See How It's Made - The making
of Maple Syrup is a true sign that spring has arrived. As the days warm
in March, the sap from the maple trees start to flow. Wintergreen Sugar
Shack and Pancake House on County Road 21 just outside of Gelert is in
full swing in the production of Maple Syrup. Wintergreen

Skiing - We are located right in the center two great downhill
ski hills, Sir Sam's Ski Area near Haliburton and Hidden Valley up by
Huntsville. Both serve food and have rentals for skiing and snowboarding.

Ice Fishing - Halls Lake and the catch is

Haliburton Dog Sledding - This activity is not at the resort,
it's about a thirty minute drive to two great places, one with Winterdance,
a dogsledding tour company that operates out of the Haliburton Highlands,
Canada, alongside Algonquin park, and is owned and operated by husband
and wife team Hank DeBruin and Tanya McCready-DeBruin, with "help"

Dorset Snowball Carnival - Snowball was originated
by the volunteer Committee for the Dorset Recreation Centre back in 1991
as a community event and fundraiser for the Rec Centre. Snowball takes
place on the 3rd weekend of February every year and has grown from an
event that used to be only attended by people form Dorset to an event
that is now attended by people from all over Ontario The town of Dorset
comes alive in the third weekend of February with the Dorset Snowball

Minden Ice Races - Used to be on the lake
now it is done in the Minden Fairgrounds on a man made frozen track of
ice and snowbanks.

Snowshoeing in Haliburton - Traditional snowshoes
have a hardwood frame with rawhide lacings. Some modern snowshoes are
similar, but most are made of materials such as lightweight metal, plastic,
and synthetic fabric. In addition to distributing the weight, snowshoes
are generally raised at the toe for maneuverability. They must not accumulate
snow, hence the latticework, and require bindings to attach them to the
feet.

Snowmobile Trail HCSA #15 - Snowmobiling
in the Haliburton Highlands has always been a popular winter sport. Season
usually start mid January to March Break. We are located right on the
trails and there is plenty of parking space for trailers on the resort
grounds. If you don't have your own sleds then you can rent them and have
them delivered right to your cottage, although we do suggest you rent
and use the trails at the Haliburton Forest Reserve, it's your choice.

The Mill Pond - is where the locals go for
a great breakfast plus it is the only one open for breakfast.

The Peppermill Restaurant - A Family restaurant
with upscale flair. Warm and comfortable, this all occasion family style
