is the traditional visit to Algonquin Provincial Park. The Park was
established in 1893 as a wildlife sanctuary and is home to plant and
animal life, 45 species of mammals, 262 species of birds, 30 species
of reptiles and amphibians, 50 species of fish, and approximately 7000
species of insects are known to occur within Algonquin's boundaries.

Three Great Things To Help You Learn About the Park
The moment you journey to Algonquin Park down the highway 60 corridor
you will discover three facilities that will introduce yourself to the
human and natural history of the Park through exhibits, interactive
displays, video, along with art.
Algonquin Visitor Centre - A fantastic
place to learn all about the Algonquin Park, the Visitor Centre is found
at the kilometre marker 43. Open year round but with reduced winter
hours.
Opened in 1993 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Algonquin Provincial
Park along with the whole Ontario provincial park system, the Visitor
Centre has worldwide class exhibits on the Park's natural and human
history, a restaurant and an outstanding bookstore. A theatre presentation
sums up the Park story after which takes you out to the viewing deck,
there you can admire a breathtaking panorama of wild Algonquin landscape

Algonquin Logging Museum - west of the
East Gate, at km marker 54.5, the Algonquin Logging Museum offers the
rich history of Logging in Algonquin Park to the public. Open late June
to mid-October
The Algonquin Logging Museum brings to life the story of logging from
the early square timber days to the last of the great river drives.
Begin your visit with a video presentation that sums up the logging
history of the Algonquin area. The easy to walk 1.5 km trail is a recreated
camboose camp and a fascinating steam-powered amphibious tug called
an "alligator" are among the many displays. Take a step back
in time and learn about this very colourful aspect of Algonquin's cultural

Algonquin Art Centre - Located half way
through the corridor at km marker 20, the Algonquin Art Centre is the
hub for art in the park.
The Algonquin Art Centre is actually a world-class art gallery that
showcases a number of Canadas major wilderness and wildlife artists.
Found in one of Canadas most stunning provincial parks, the AAC
is built upon a long tradition of artists in Algonquin Park from Tom
Thomson to Robert Bateman. By showing the newest works by Canadas
best artistic talent, the burgeoning of this tradition can be enjoyed
by visitors and art enthusiasts from all over the world. Open June 1,
2011.

showcase works from Canadas renowned and up and coming artists,
