The early settlers were drawn here by the vast timber resources of
the Highlands. The Gull River flows gentle through the village, a big
change from the shouts of lumberjacks floating huge white pines to the
mills.
When the timber resources were depleted, the early settlers turned
to farming which then turned into a popular tourist destination for
visitors and cottage owners supporting the communities growth. It's
now Ontario's vacation playground in the Haliburton Highlands.
